reviews: new skin care regimen

Posted on: June 30, 2011

warning – this is a collective review and therefore, a VERY long post. hehe

i’ve decided to use products which are 100% natural or products that do not have harmful chemicals (like parabens) in them. why? for overall well-being and because we have FINALLY decided to try to get pregnant πŸ™‚

it’s a gradual process… i’m starting out with skincare products first since that is easier to transition. as for makeup, i don’t know… there are limited natural / chemical-free products here in the philippines plus im not sure if i can give up my nars products! πŸ˜€ i have started trying out pur minerals foundation – will post a review on that as well.

here are some products that i’ve been using:

from left to right:

VMV Hypoallergenics Hydra Balance Gentle Cream Cleanser (P500+)

validated hypoallergenic, 100% all types of fragrance free, 100% preservative free, usage + patch-tested, non-comedogenic, with monolaurin (??), for men, women, and kids ages 9+. for combination skin

mrskendz’ verdict: highly recommended!

if given a choice, i would have wanted to use a humanheartnature (HHN) facial product. but i have tried their facial wash before and it just didn’t work for me 😦 i know they have new formulations but im not willing to risk it. besides, im really happy with this one! for the following reasons:

1. it’s non-drying. i hate facial wash that leaves your skin feeling dry after washing

2. it didn’t break me out which is really great!

3. it’s affordable.

4. it smells nice. no strong perfume-y smell. just a light refreshing smell

the only thing im not liking about this is that – i feel it doesn’t really do a good job at taking all my makeup off. so i still need to use a makeup remover before washing my face. (still using my shu uemura cleansing oil but will try HHN’s cleansing oil soon) and sometimes toner afterwards (just got a burt’s bees toner – will do a separate review on that)

also, VMV products are not 100% natural unlike HHN products 😦 but at least it has less chemicals!

VMV Hypoallergenics Armada Face Cover SPF 45 (P900+)

validated hypoallergenic (except for one possible allergen in the ingredients); 100% all types of fragrance free; 100% phthalate-PABA+preservative free; usage, patch, in vitro, in vitro+clinically tested; for all skin types; non-drying; non-comedogenic; for men, women, and kids aged 2+.

mrskendz’ verdict: highly recommended!

sunblock is a staple in my beauty stash. i will never ever leave the house without sunblock! i feel that aside from moisturizer, this is the most critical part in my beauty regimen to keep wrinkles at bay. πŸ˜€ i’ve seen this product in magazines for the longest time but don’t know why i haven’t tried it before!

this is really one of the best sunblock i have tried! it doesn’t make my face oily (unlike laniege) and actually gives me a matte finish. the only thing i don’t like is that it’s a bit hard to blend. not very creamy and a bit thick to the touch. but it doesn’t feel thick when applied at all! will definitely purchase the bigger tube!

Jurlique Chamomile Shampoo (P1k+)

daily revitalizing shampoo that improves softness and shine so hair appears healthy.

mrskendz’ verdict: recommended

my hair is one of my forever frustrations – i have very fine and thin hair. i try to keep it as healthy as possible to minimize hairfall! i am soooo scared of going bald :S

i do like this shampoo. i like it better than the kiehl’s shampoos i have tried before. it makes my hair shiny and soft – but not limp. the smell is also wonderful!

the reason why i didn’t say highly recommended is that 1. it’s quite expensive for such a small bottle and 2. i still can’t get used to the non-sudding part. i lather it on but it just doesn’t foam up! the sales lady said it’s normal because of the lack of bad chemicals. hmmm zero foam or chemicals? hmm ill take zero foam any time! :p

p.s. i have tried HHN before (strengthening shampoo) and comparing the two, i like this one better because it doesn’t dry out my hair like the way HHN did. with HHN i had to use conditioner regularly – but with jurlique, i don’t. although with the price difference, i may need to re-consider.

Humanheartnature Sunflower Beauty Oil (P119.75)

mrskendz’ verdict: highly recommended!

this product is so versatile!!! i used it on my undereye area and i do believe the darkness has subsided a bit πŸ˜€ i also use it as a remover for non-waterproof eye makeup. i apply this on my legs (sometimes at night time) to remove dry patches. apparently, you can use it on dark areas such as elbows, knees or underarms to help lighten – though i haven’t tried that! hehe.

i haven’t experienced anything i didn’t like about this.

Humanheartnature Overnight Moisturizer (P124.75) and Humanheartnature Day Moisturizer (P124.75)

mrskendz’ verdict: not recommended for dry to combination skin, recommended for oily skin

these moisturizers are too light-weight for my taste. i had used creme de la mer for almost 2 years and i love how that keeps my skin supple and hydrated. sadly, with these two, i just don’t feel like it’s doing their job well. 😦 the texture of the moisturizer is a bit watery and very transparent. when applied to the face, your skin hardly feels hydrated.

it might just be my personal preference. i like thicker moisturizer which sinks into my skin. (i’m trying jurlique moisturizer now – ill post a separate review as well)

Humanhearnature Passion Fruit Hydrating Lotion (P64.75)

mrskendz’ verdict: recommended

i think this is a decent body lotion. but i will probably not re-purchase again because it can’t handle my very dry skin (especially on my legs) and because i don’t like the smell. it smells too sweet! my legs tend to be very very dry and at times appear snake-like – that’s how dry it is. and this lotion, albeit good, is not that potent enough.

also, the smell is just too strong! too sweet. i hope they create a non-fragant version.

im still in the lookout for a decent replacement for my kielh’s creme de corps lotion – which i discovered has paraben in the ingredients :(. any recommendations?

Humanhearnature All Natural Deodorant

mrskendz’ verdict: recommended

i’ve used cream (kiehl’s), stick and spray deodorants but never a roll-on so this product feels a bit weird for me. i think that the roller head dispenses too much product at once and i have to pat my underarms with tissue to get rid of the excess.

i do like how this smell though πŸ™‚ keeps my underarms smelling nice and not amoy kili-kili.

i find that this does a decent job in keeping me dry under certain weather but when i go out for a walk at noon-time, it does tend to get a little wet – especially when im wearing a tighter top. but overall, i think this is a good deodorant without any of the harmful chemicals! will definitely keep repurchasing πŸ™‚

vmv products are available at boni high streetΒ  and glorietta 2, jurlique at greenbelt 5 and HHN at beautybar, online or your nearest dealer πŸ™‚

hope you liked this review! please share your favorite all-natural product. πŸ™‚ feel free to leave a comment for any questions πŸ™‚

great review kendz! for shampoo, you may want to try ilog maria’s honey and propolis shampoo. it leaves my hair soft and their recommended conditioner is just calamansi hehe πŸ˜€ it also leaves your scalp tingly. they have small and big bottles too so if you just want to try it first you can buy a small bottle muna πŸ™‚

neva, where can i buy ilog maria products? πŸ™‚

I actually like that HHN lotion. πŸ˜› My skin is not that dry I suppose so it hydrates my skin just right, and kid that I am, I love the bubblegum scent! Haha.

Oh, and good luck on the getting pregnant part! πŸ˜‰

thanks πŸ™‚

i think it’s a good lotion for normal skin. mine is ultra dry kasi. kaya i need richer lotions.

love, love HHN. πŸ™‚ try their unscented body butter, I didnt like the scent of their lotions either. found them too sweet as well. πŸ™‚
