reviews: sigma brushes part 2

Posted on: August 16, 2011

part 2 of my sigma brushes review is the make me up set (in make me crazy which has the purple handles)

make me crazy set

from Sigma: Introducing the new ‘Make Me Up’ collection! Our best selling professional 12 brush kit now comes in beautiful colors and inside a durable and multifunctional container! Besides protecting your brushes, this exclusive container transforms into two stylish brush holders!

this is how it looks like when opened – 5 face brushes and 7 eye brushes

all the brushes have names and number coding

unlike the previous set – where i loved all three brushes, for this set, i have to say that there are a few pieces that i can live without… i’ll review each brush for your reference and i will try to compare with similar MAC brush counterpart if i have the it – just for the sake of comparing ๐Ÿ˜€

the descriptions were copied from sigma’s website.

Eyeliner – E05 – An extra-fine tipped synthetic fiber brush that delivers a precise, firm, even stroke to line the eyes.

this is a great eyeliner brush for gel eyeliners. i used to use bobbi brown’s ultra fine eyeliner brush but i find that this gives a more precised and thinner line. great for when i want really subtle eyeliner look.

Pencil – E30 – Precise application of color on the crease, outer corner, and upper and lower lash line. Also ideal to smudge out pencil liner. Natural bristles.
great for smudging eyeliner and applying color in the crease area.

compared to the MAC 219, the MAC is more dense than the E30 which is better for smudging out color. but the E30 is more tapered at the ends which is better for a more precise application of eyeshadow on top of eyeliners or highlight color in the inner corner.

Tapered Blending – E40 – Rounded and tapered top. Specially designed to apply and blend color on the crease. Natural bristles.
this brush does what it says on the description above. it is great for blending color together especially at the crease area. i also like this brush for applying highlighter on the brow bone or on the cheeks.
compared to MAC 224, the E40 is fluffier however, the MAC is more tapered in the end which is better for applying color in the crease area. (disclaimer: the 224 that i have came from a set, so it might not be the same replica as the original 224 brush)
Eye Shading – E55 – Soft and dense with a rounded finish. Can be used to apply pressed or loose eye shadows and pigments. Ideal to build intense color on the eyelid. Natural bristles.
the bristles are a bit flimsy… not so good at packing in colors. and i do get a lot of shedding from this brush compared to the other brushes in the set!

im not sure if i should compare it to the 239 or the 242 but both brushes are actually very different from the E55. the 239 is closer but the E55 is wider and more tapered.

Large Shader – E60 – Flat shape is ideal for application of cream formulas and eye shadow primers. It also works great with loose eye shadows or pigments. Can be used to apply color all over the lid or precisely on the lash line. Natural bristles.
good for applying color in one sweep and for applying color on your lower lash line. however, the bristles feel a bit stiff for a natural bristled brush – for me it actually feels more synthetic than natural.

compared to MAC 252, the E60 is less dense and the 252 is softer and better for applying eyeshadow.

Small Angle – E65 – Essential for the application of gel or cream eyeliner on the upper and lower lash line. This brush is also excellent for filling out the eyebrows. Synthetic bristles.
this a great brush for eyeliner – makes cat-liner application so much easier! ๐Ÿ™‚ great for applying eyebrow shade as well.
Medium Angled Shading – E70 – Angled, tapered, flat top. Ideal to apply highlight shades underneath the eyebrow and on the inner corners. It can also be used for a precise application of darker shades on the crease area. Natural bristles.

ok i have to say that i am NOT a fan of this brush… the angle is a bit off and the longest part just feels too flimsy. i tried applying eyeshadow on the crease area but it’s so bad that i get a single line of color! i tried using this on the eyebrows and it doesn’t work as well.

Large Powder – F30 – Very dense with a rounded top. Ideal to apply powder products on face and body. Natural bristles.
i like this brush! great for applying powder to set foundation or bronzer for contouring (since i have a huge face! hehe)
Large Angled Contour – F40 – The angled shape makes this brush ideal to apply blush or contour shades. Natural bristles.
soft and gentle on the skin… i like using this for applying blush or for contouring. the only problem i have with this is that i wish the bristles are more packed.
Duo Fibre – F50 – Specially designed to generate an airbrushed finish when used to apply liquid foundation. It can also be used to apply blush, highlight shades and loose pigments. Blend of synthetic and natural bristles.

great for applying / buffing out blush. not so recommended for foundation because the bristles are a bit ‘scattered’ / flufflier / rounder ??? (can’t find the right word… please refer to picture below)

compared to MAC 187, i still prefer the 187 for foundation application.

Foundation – F60 – Can be used to apply liquid or cream foundation. It is also recommended to apply moisturizers and conceal large areas. Synthetic bristles.
i use this to apply liquid foundation and cream blush and it worked quite well.

compared to the MAC 190, the F60 is more tapered which i find better for applying foundation in hard to reach area such as the corner of the nose or under eye area. although the brush bristles in the 190 is softer on the skin.

Concealer – F70 – The rounded, tapered, flat shape makes this brush ideal to conceal the under eye area. It is also recommended for a precise application in small areas. Synthetic bristles.
(sorry the brush is a bit dirty teehee) i love this concealer brush for applying concealer in the undereye area! ๐Ÿ˜€
price: $99 or P4,500
mrskendzโ€™ verdict: highly recommended!
out of the 12 brushes, i actually dislike only 2 or 3 brushes so i think it is still worth having. great for everyday personal use and for beginners ๐Ÿ™‚
